Reblooming Iris

Mifflintown, PA(Zone 6a)

Anyone growing these? Just got a leaflet from Brecks with pictures and pkg offer. Would like to know if they work like advertised. Also was curious if they reproduced as well as reg iris.

If you are asking about reblooming irises in general, I can highly recommend them. Reblooming irises MAY rebloom if they grow well during the summer, so enough water and nutrients are essential to good rebloom. Regular bearded irises can live and thrive on less water and food and still produce a nice crop of flowers every spring.

It's also important to note that not all reblooming irises will rebloom in all zones. You should do some research to find out what zones which irises will reliably rebloom in. I too am a zone 6 and these rebloomers that I have had for several years do very well for me and rebloom every fall:
Clarence
Immortality
Baby Blessed
Lo Ho Silver
Plum Wine

There are others that will rebloom in zone 6 and warmer, but I only have personal experience with these. I also have Rosalie Figge but have not found it to be reliable. Sometimes it will bloom in the spring, and will try to rebloom so late in the fall that the first heavy frost will kill the flowers. Other times, it will not bloom in the spring, and will rebloom earlier in the fall. While it is a pretty flower, I do not recommend it as I have the others I have listed.

Some of the iris growers have charts that show you the zone that rebloomers will most likely rebloom in. Because they need growth of rhisomes to rebloom, reblooming irises are even more vigorous that their regular bearded cousins. You will find that you may have to dig and separate the clumps of rebloomers more often because of that.

I agree about the link you provided being very helpful Margiempv. As I said above, some of the iris growers also have charts on their websites that list the various reblooming irises and to what zone you can expect rebloom. I can't remember exactly where I got my chart, but someone here may be able to help you with that.

QUEEN DOROTHY was the only iris that I have ever had that rebloomed consistently in August and September here for me in PA. BEST BET used to do it once in awhile, but usually ran into a hard freeze before it could bloom.

Thank you all. Later I will check out that site. Sounds like they might be a waste of money.
