Newbie question - are all cannas evergreen?

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

When looking through the many, many Canna entries in PlantFiles, some say they are evergreen and some don't. Are different cultivars different, or is it just that some entries just didn't get that tag?

I'm in the Houston area, zone 9a.

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

I don't know of any variety that would be evergreen here, but maybe they were talking about in warmer zones???

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Mine are evergreen until it freezes - then they die to the ground, and return in spring when the weather gets warm again.

Yep, evergreen until it freezes, exactly! I love it -lol.

Really though, you are in a much warmer zone....someone will know better

Well, if they're evergreen for you until a freeze, I'll assume the same will be true of me. So maybe evergreen all year on a mild year, and dies back on a colder year. I can live with that!

Some of the plant files entries are sorta half baked. Most folks know cannas cannot stay green below freezing temperatures. Some seem to have more hardiness and come back in spring faster without but all of them die right after a freeze. They all look awful too if it gets cold enough in early spring to nip the leaves.
