Ground Pearls

Goldsboro, NC

I have just had my front lawn (centipede) diagnosed with ground pearls. It makes the lawn very very ugly. As far as i know there is not a cure at this time. Anyone have any suggestions?

What the heck are ground pearls???

Ground Pearls belong to the scale family .. Margarodes spp. , Margarodidae, HOMOPTERA.

Apparently there is no control for them, except by removal of the infected area.

That sounds like a bad thing to have in your grass.

Why wouldn't a systemic like disyston or merit work on these critters? The waxy coating may protect them from the outside, but if they eat poison they should crump...How come they don't?

I was thinking the same thing .. but when I researched it, not one site offered up anything that would kill it.
