Just planted this one last year. I believe it's name is Pamela Jackman. Please correct me if I am wrong.
First Clematis to Bloom for Me (in Maine)
Very nice! :)
It's definitely NOT Clematis "Pamela Jackman" as she is a Viticella and yours is definitely from the Atragene group..maybe Clematis "Purple Spider"?..or one that is similar...Jeanne

Hate to correct you, but COTW says about vit PJ ----
Cream flowers edged in rich purple (Magnus Johnson in his description has the colours reversed.) Purple anthers. Named by Rowland Jackman after his daughter. This form seems lost to cultivation and the name was re-used in 1960 for the alpina form which is available today.
Actually my first thought was that you were getting Pamela J mixed up with Barbara J, but then I rememberd that BJ was a type 2, so I thought I better search for Jackman to make sure.
It makes it rough when some clems have very similar names.
Also there is a Mrs George J, which is a white group 2.
Although they are very similar, I think my friend Ramona's alpina might be Blue Dancer, which has longer tepals. My PJ, bought last year, is growing well but doesn't have buds yet. But Ramona is one half zone warmer than me, nearer the coast in the warmest part of Maine

Marie..YOU ARE RIGHT!!..I saw the variety "Viticella" Pamela Jackman ..I don't understand why a viticella would be in the Alpinas??..Viticellas are hard prune 3? whereas this says that Alpina "Pamela Jackman" is a pruning group 1
