Growing a clematis up a downspout

Belgium, WI(Zone 5a)

I'm thinking I'd like to plant a viticella to grow up a downspout and soften that corner of the house. What's the best way to accomplish this? Wrap the downspout in chicken wire?

Any problems with this approach?

I'm actually running out of place to plant clematis and I only have a few. I don't know how you all do it!

I got my from Gardeners Supply years ago, but they are the same thing, only less expensive now.. :) I use mine on the posts of my split rail fences..

I'm planning to do my downspout, too, and my plan was just to wrap it in some trellis netting, like this - http://www.usahardware.com/inet/shop/item/91720/icn/20-299032/weatherly/16301.htm

I used this netting for a couple of other Clematis and they are loving it. Plus, it's lightweight, inexpensive and can be easily attached using cheapo zip ties from the hardware store, or little dots of caulking, or probably even wire twist ties! I got mine at the local Ace Hardware store.

I'm thinking I'm going to wrap some around a tree and put some clematis there, too!

I like that downspout frame, but I'm too cheap. ;)

I took 2 1x4x8' ers, stapled chicken wire to them and then wrapped em around one of the downspouts on my garage. I need to plant a lower growing clematis to fill in the bottom (the top is covered nicely by Triternata Rubromarginata) but otherwise it looks pretty good.

So any suggestions on what would look great with TR above it?
