CRAPE MYRTLE

Great Neck, NY

HAVE A CRAPE MYRTLE. TRANSPLANTED IN LATE WINTER, ABOUT 10 FEET TALL.
GREEN UNDER BARK ALL THE WAY UP....AND WHAT I THINK ARE SUBSTANTIAL BUDS ON TOP BRANCHES. NO FOLIAGE YET. OTHER CRAPES FULLY LEAFED OUT.
SMALL SHOOTS AT BOTTOM BUT THEY DON'T SEEM CONNECTED TO THE TREE. LEAVES DON'T LOOK LIKE LEAVES ON OTHER MYRTLES. WHADDYA THINK? THANK YOU.

Fort Washington, MD

It is a symbiont, crape myrtle like many trees are host to the other plants that attach themselves (see mistletoe) often they share resources but, more often than not the symbiont will rob the host and kill it off. I recomend you remove the "leaching" plant ASAP.
