Let's see those Japanese irises!

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

OK it's a bit early in the season but please welcome... Pleasant Earlybird! The few others I have are probably a couple weeks away from bloom.

How pretty!

I just love those Japanese, and that's one I purchased this year.

It's always nice to have the odd early ones blooming with a different type iris. I was hoping it would bloom with one of the siberians I matched it to.

Mine has not started yet...will post if before the big dig.

Pleasant Earlybird finally has company! This is Reisyun.

This is my first ever. The first Japanese Iris I ever saw was when I was 9 or 10 years old in my great aunts garden (1949 or 50) I will never forget it. I believe this one is called pink spritz.

I am finding myself getting more and more interested in the Japanese Iris.
Will some of you give me your favorite places to buy?
I would also trade daylilies for some if you might want to do that.

I was very pleased with the 10 plants I recieved from ensata.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I have ordered from Ensata and Aitkens. Last year there was a co-op with Aitkens. There are others that I haven't ordered from so you should check with the Garden Watchdog.

Another JI open now... Earth and Fire. Love the blend of blue and violet. I must put in an order with Ensata. I've been working on it for weeks-- made a long list but must whittle it down and will still need to kick out some plants to make room. Who will get to stay and who will go home to the compost bin crying...

A couple more have opened. Japanese Harmony is a tetraploid with noticeably heavy petal substance.

Fourfold Pink is another tetraploid...

And here is Summer Splash!

I've had this one for many years in the same place. It seems immune to the soil depletion problems I get with other JIs.

Pard, I love that Earth and Fire. What a color combo! Would you mind telling me where you purchased that one?

Hi Polly-- I got Earth and Fire from a trade with Denise. Maybe she has more of it...

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Epimetheus opened today. The overall color is actually darker, almost velvety. Scrump! The blue is present as a halo around the yellow signals but my camera also interpreted the shadows as blue. So you can adjust how it really looks in your mind.

This is a seedling from Freckled Geisha. I lost the daddy tag but it was either Ruby Star or Electric Glow.

Oh what a beautiful seedling. How long do you have to wait for a bloom for seed with the Japanese Iris?
Sandra

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

You might get some bloom the second year if they are well grown. Most will bloom the third year. I just measured the width of this bloom and it was 8 inches!

Ripley, MS

It was well worth the wait, it is a wonderful plant. Such beautiful colors together.

I am glad you are enjoying these beautiful irises. I am waiting for my last two cultivars to open and will post their pics then.

Strange as close as we are, my JI have just started to open, image later this week and next they will put on a show.

This is an unknown pink JI I acquired from buggycrazy. I like the delicate veining.

Darn! Last one for the season. This is a clump of my Freckled Geisha seedling. Denise, I am guessing we average a couple of degrees warmer here in town, enough to make a difference in bloom time.

Still have 60% not bloomed yet, will bloom this week.
