I had one of my dark purple iris in a vase on my counter. As it died, it curled up and starting dripping on the counter. Suprisingly, the iris dripped a dark purple! It reminded me of "ink berries" that we used to smash as kids and use to write with a feather on paper. So, yes, I tried it. It works! Who knows...maybe there's a future for someone in selling iris ink. Some people will buy anything if you price it high enough, LOL! : )
Iris Ink?
LOL! I don't know about its commercial future as ink, but maybe you could use the blooms to dye textiles. I think you have to add something -- vinegar? -- to the water to "fix" most plant dyes... I'm no expert, but I'm sure the info is easy to find by googling. The blooms might also be good candidates for "flower pounding" (I think that's the official name), where you smash a bloom onto a piece of paper or cloth to get an imprint of the flower using its own color.
Let us know if you play around with these blooms further!
:-)
