Can you ID this Azalea?

Caldwell, NJ

I snatched this photo off the web site for the NY Botanical Garden. I am interested in finding out more info on the azalea pictured in the background that is the "hot pink" color. Can anyone guess? Would it be evergreen?

Why don't you ask them? Last year, I asked the Dallas Arboretum to identify a blooming azalea for which I found no tag. They emailed me back within a few weeks. Try asking them at http://www.nybg.org but give them some time to reply. I am sure they are busy people in spring.

Can you get a closer picture of both the flowers and the leaves?

Did it look something like this?

It could be Girards Fuscia

Danielsville, GA(Zone 7b)

That looks like the "native azelia, or dicidious azelia"

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I think that Girards fuschia is a very close guess as well, if not the actual plant. however, there's so many azaleas that similar in color to that one, that it will be very, very difficult to come to a definite conclusion.

This is a close up of the last little bloom of the year. It was tucked away deep inside the bush a couple of weeks ago.
