Satelite for Internet connections?

I live about 6 miles from town & Verison tells me that I'm too far from them to get their DSL, so our son who lives across the road from us now has dish - his email addy ends with @dishmail.net & he says it's pretty fast compared to the dial up he had before. There are several different satelite internet services around here & I was wondering what everyone else uses & what their experince is with it. My dial up connects at 26.4... very slow!
