Finally convinced

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6a)

I finally heard my mother say, "I think I'd like to try some of the baby irises you have". WOW! So because she's a beginner with medians, specifically, SDB.

Which are the top 5 "beginning iris gardener" SDBs in your opinion of all time? Please factor is scent, clumping/multiplication speed, and color/form.

Thanks

Deer River, MN(Zone 3b)

Hmm. Scent I can't really help you with because I don't generally get down on my hands and knees to smell the littleuns.

If you want a nice selection of various colors and patterns, all of which I have found to be extraordinarily hardy, vigorous growers, and generous bloomers, I recommend the following:

What Again (rebloom)
Caution Sign
Firestorm
With Castanets
Chanted
Tantara
Little Episode
Ruby Eruption (rebloom)
Chocolate Cupcake
Auroralita (rebloom)
Forever Blue (not quite as vigorous as the others for me, but great rebloom potential)

The only one of these that has ever rebloomed for me is What Again, though I keep expecting Forever Blue to do so some day.

These are some of my most bullet-proof, reliable SDBs - great for beginner collections.

Maya Mint (photo below) reliable and good increases. Can't recall fragrance, I don't have any Iris blooming yet. 40" of snow in April will slow things down a bit. *sigh*
Chubby Cheeks
Tantara
Snickers
Radioactive

Thanks, actually I have quite a few of those on the list (transfers from where else, MI and MN ;-) )

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Marquette, MI(Zone 5a)

Okay, I'll go out in the garden and see what is there that I HAVEN't sent you........

Laurie said " because I don't generally get down on my hands and knees to smell the littleuns." I can get down on my hands and knees. It's getting back up that is hilarious.

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6a)

Marsha too funny! I get down but then I get on all fours to pull weeds, that's when I noticed how great Pilgrims' Choice smelled...

I gotta get me a piece of that one back. I traded someone that for something and then mine part here gave up the ghost and the gardens I got it from hasn't listed it since....

Let's see daylily, I'll take 1 each Urban Star, Blue Neon, everything you mentioned really except Summoned Spirit and Dot Com...

LOL.

We must all shop at the same place. Ruby Eruption has never rebloomed for me. Maybe I'll up the feed this year, to see what happens. My first bloomed yesterday, French Wine. Not particularly showy, but Oh how welcome. One not mentioned but a fave of mine is ...

Baby Blessed seems to love hurricanes and will rebloom when ever channel 11 anounces one LOL

Hagerstown, MD(Zone 6a)

That wouldn't be an NBC affiliate would it? I think I got Baby Blessed from Winterberry 2 years ago by mistake. I was supposed to be Narnia. I have a pic off to them to see if they can ID it. Oh and Earth and Sky are on my pre-order list for them for 2006. Hopefully, I'm going down there this weekend to see what's still in bloom as far as SDB goes. It's about 45 min. drive.
