I thought that these 2 plants could take part shade, but when I checked the plant files, full sun was recommended. Since I have very little full sun (at least 6 hours), I was hoping I had heard the correct information. But now I wonder. Can i get any help on these?
canterbury bells and veronica
You can't always believe the plantfiles unfortunately.
Ehow says light shade to full sun

This site says that too

As to the Veronica this site that it can be grown in light shade but blooms better in full sun.

Some other sites say that Veronica only grows in full sun.
Good luck!
erk. Back to the drawing board. I wish catalogs didn't lie.
Seems as if 6 hours of sun ought to be all right if you don't mind the Veronica blooming a little less. The foliage is very pretty. It certainly seems as if it would be adequate for the campanulas.
What I meant was I have very few places that get up to 6 hours of sun. I planted them in an area that probably gets 4 hours of sun. So it's doubtful that they will bloom. I will move them after they get over the shock of this transplant.
AH, well shady gardens are opportunities for a lot of things but I know that it can be discouraging having no sunny places at all. I wish that catalogs didn't lie too. My least favorite was a bulb that smelled to high heaven and when I got it I googled it. One of it's attributes was that it smelled like "rotting human flesh". Somehow the catalog forgot to mention that part about it.
woodspirit: Don't be discouraged. I have 2 kids of veronica that have done pretty well in about 4 hrs of sun. Which kind is it that you have?
Deb
Veronica spicata?
I have an austriaca and umbrosa. Both are recommended full sun to part shade, like spicata - and have bloomed in less than part shade for me. 4 hours of sun in zone 7a is "more" sun than it would be in a cooler zone, too.
Might be fine! )

Thanks for the encouragement. I will see how they do where they are for a couple of years, and move them if need be.
Hi, all--
One more tidbit--- read somewhere that some campanulas are more tolerant of shade than others. I have mine in about 4 hours of midday sun and they are doing well.
Unfortunately, I grew 5 different kinds from seed and now don't know which are which or I could be more specific for you! ---I think maybe 'persififolia' (whatever!) is one of mine in the part shade garden. There are three that seem to like it there...
Last year we had a good thread going on Campanulas that got me interested in the different kinds-- you might find it interesting--I had no idea it was such a popular flower!
