No, I haven't checked the veracity of these, believe at your own risk! This was taken from the "tack of the day" site.

Did you know the reason why most people mount a horse from the left side?


Here's your answer:

Dating back to Napoleon Bonaparte's time, soldiers (including Napoleon himself) carried a sword on their left side.

Mounting a horse from the right was virtually impossible with a left drawn sword!

And so, the tradition began, horses were to be handled from the left side.

Now you know!
