Clematis ID

Springfield, OR(Zone 8b)

This clematis has been identified for me by my grandma as 'the purple one'. lol I salvaged it from her yard a couple of years ago and would love a more precise identification. Anyone recognize it? I did some searching in the plant files, and in this forum as well, and just didn't see anything that was a good match.

This was a discussion last year about our favorite clematis. :) I think I disappeared from dg right after that, and am so glad to be back!

Another pic, of the first bloom of the year! the color is a bit faded on this one, the newer flowers are a brighter purple.

I have no idea but what a beautiful colour and just look at the size of that flower! Wow!

Beautiful! That bloom is bigger than your hand!

Aren't the blooms just lovely!?

Jeanne, the Bees' Jubilee is much 'pinker' than mine. I know the picture is hard to tell, and monitors are all different. My flower definitely has a mauvey hue to the purple, but not enough that I would call it pink. Also, there is much more contrast with the stripe in the middle of the petal on the bees' jubilee. Mine is not a real pronounced difference, I think the texture of the flower along the length of the stripe makes it appear darker.

Thanks for linking to that website, I surfed around there for an hour!

Here is a picture of how pretty it is in the rain! (also looks more purple)

How about this one: http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=418, Sir Garnet Wolseley?

YES! Terri, I think you're right. Sir Garnet Wolseley. Newer flowers are more on the purple end of the purple-mauve spectrum, and as they age they get more mauvey.

Thank you all so much for your time. I really appreciate you looking for an ID for me. I spent quite a bit of time at the same website and was unable to find a match myself.

Thanks again!

Tootsie Pop! I read chamelle, chamozzle... and though 'whaaa???' made no sense to me. I then read it out loud to my husband and he laughed his head off!! I know this may sound crazy, but I've never seen Laverne and Shirley! My husband though, was a big fan, and he's been doing crazy things to my name for the last 20 years. 'Chamma Lamma Ding Dong, Chambozo the Clown, Chamalicious, Chammeriffic.... and on and on... anyway, thanks for the giggle!

We had CRAZY weather down here today... must have had the same system as you guys. Too bad it didn't snow, we could have said we had it ALL.

This is the third spring I've had this clematis. There are actually two clems there, one a smaller flowered pure white that blooms later in the summer. The first year I didn't have a single bloom on the white one, and thought I had killed it in the move. :) It was just sulking.

too funny, I'm glad your husband knew what I was referring to, so I'm not the only crazy one... Chamerrific - lol

Most of my clems are on year 2, it's amazing how much progress they make in a year. Yours is in a nice spot in the yard, mine are all up against the fence, its nice to see one in the middle like that.

It's sunny & cloudy today here, not as temperamental as yesterday.
