The magic beauty of unfolding ferns in spring!

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Among the immense abundance of wonders of spring calling for attention are the newly born fronds of ferns, often looking like a gathering of strange entities having a round table conference! I cannot stop admiring their amazing beauty and unique way of unfolding their foliage.
So I would like to share some pictures I took of mine.

Bonitin,
Ferns are SO difficult to photograph! You really have a knack for lighting and catching them at the right angle!

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

That's very true Shadyfolks, ferns are very difficult to photograph! No camera, no matter how good its quality can really replace the eye. Sometimes I'm lucky and get it right from the first shot but more often I try and try until I get something that approaches and gives right to the beauty of fern.
It has also to do with passion and observation; I want to capture that particular instant where the fern shows itself at best at that particular moment and light conditions of the day.

Bonitin -- you inspired me to go and take some photos of my ferns and you are right. They are very difficult to photograph!

I did take a photo of this polystitchum divisilobum and I enjoyed the coloration of the new fronds against the old. It got hit in the freeze this winter but didn't go dormant.

Magnificent Doss! Love these beautiful subtle colorations on the new and old fronds. The polystichum family has some gorgeous species and I specially love the ones with the lace-like appearance like yours.

Thanks. I think that of the hardy ferns this is my very favorite.
