As a newbie to this Forum .
Let me first tell you a bit about my self .
I`m a retired has been .
And I now take Pictures of Fungi and Insects .
And work in my Garden .
Can any One ID this Square Mushroom please .
Thanks in advance . Kell
Square Mushrooms ?
Wow, those are unusual. Every year I see new and different fungi here, depending on weather conditions for that year. I swear some of these mushrooms stay dormant for years and pop up to surprize us. This one looks like a bunch of cheese-its stacked on a log. I have no idea what they are, but sure intresting to look at. Thanks for posting.
Wow, they look different. I thought they were more like a shelf mushroom. I love looking at stuff like this. DH is always way ahead on the walk wondering where I am. He doesn't understand, there is stuff to look at.

This particular walk is 23 Kilometers long .
I have been asked to take Spore Print of this Mushroom .
It appears to be a new un-named species .
Have you ever taken a Spore Print ?
It takes a minimum of 2 hours .
Not the thing one is likely to do on a 5 hour walk .
So now I have to go back there and do the deed for science .
Thing is I get to name it . How Cool is that .
That is very cool.
I just enjoy looking at the stuff. I don't know any proper names, I make up my own for fun. I am more into the wildflowers for the names, photos and all.
You see, I would call those cheese-it mushrooms, not a good name for the books. I have heard of spore print, but do not know what is involved. I thought you just tapped it over paper. (you may cringe at that statement).
Very intresting and very exciting find!
Intresting. Thanks for sharing. Then what happens to the spores?
Nothing .
The spore print is used to ID it .
There are Spore Print Banks in USA & Aus.
You woulden`t really want these things in your garden .
So many wild mushrooms are Poisenous .
Not the garden. We have lots of woods and lots of mushrooms, mostly in the fall. Just many unusual ones. I have seen small round pink ones, purple ones, yellow, red, orange, coral type, one that looked like a big chocolate pie with a crust around the edge, ones shaped like ears, the starship enterprize, and of course mushroom type flowers such as indian pipe and beech drops. Just fun to look at. I don't even like to touch for fear of then rubbing my mouth or something.
There are so many wonderful things growing out there for us to find.
I`m heading bush this morning to get a Spore Print ,
Of my maybe newly discovered Mushroom .
Wish me luck .
Get your spore print?
I`ll bet you`ve not seen one of these B4 ?
Well folks ,
I`ve got to say this has been the most lively forum I`ve ever posted on .
I`m sorry for putting yall to sleep . Now to find a new Interest .
That is soo cool!

Ginger, I am Frank. I am getting jet lag from your spore print, because it reminds me that it is May. And may is the beginning of fall season, at least in Sydney. And this means mushrooms as soon as the fall rains begin here in Oregon, USA. I went to Sydney, Au in May 1968, and the leaves were starting to fall off the shade trees down under.
Want to have some real fun with mushrooms at night, get yourself a portable Black Light. Many of them flourese under uv light.
It is mushroom season on your turf, good luck. Thank you so much for posting those great interesting pictures. Frank
Almost looks like portabello mushrooms but far as I know they don't grow on trees.
This one was 3 ft off the ground .
We have had mushrooms here glow like fireflies by just shinning a regular flashlight on them. It was kind of spooky the first time we saw it. Mushrooms are great, there are always new intresting ones to see.
Doesn't look like it'll stay alive for very long, though!
Resin
The scar in the top right corner is a BLAIZE mark .
See this link .

This practise was stopped 30 years ago .
The trails are relatively un marked now .
Helps to keep the Idiots out .
The ones that spark major rescues .
And costs the tax payers $15,000 per rescue .
That was my rant for today .
Thank you Resin for your keen observation .
I am always seeing new mushrooms too. Especially after it rains. It's pretty neat to see the different ones around here.
Where's your camera then ?
Right now there aren't any out there that I know of. The camera is sitting next to me waiting for some shoes to pose for it. :~)
Take a pic. of yourself then .
LOL. I have but none are good enough.
No I can't, so how about leaking it to us. Frank
OK .
I have 2 yery keen scify boys ,
So the Starship Enterprise
Was a big thing in our household .
And these Mushrooms have a striking resemblance to the Enterprise .
See Star Ship here .

Oh gasp, oh laugh, lol etc. How funny. Don't you love having boys!
Frank.
Hey, you have trekrooms too!
The picture I sent you in the other thread was 2 years old. Last year they did not grow that way. We will see this fall what happens.
I agree with Resin. I think part of that tree is dead. We have quite a few around here like that, most of the tree has a huge hole in it, but somehow it still has leaves. These are the ones the raccoons seem to like to litter in.
Really pretty. Looks like shells.
It does look like shells.
We have those too. When I see them and holes from woodpeckers on the same tree, I wonder if the woodpeckers use them as a perch, as the holes seem to be right above the mushrooms. (although they do not need perches)
I found a large one and turned it over and used it as a soap dish by my hand pitcher pump. It only lasted about 3 months, but looked kind of neat.
When they are fresh I think these are ok to eat, but I have never tried them. Morel mushrooms are the only wild mushrooms that I eat. And they are in season now. They are very good.
First time I mentioned square Mushies on another Web Site .
They thought I was eating some of the Magic ones .
I have never been game to try bush Mushrooms .
