How Tough Are Iris?

Well here are seedlings I shredded and put in the compost pile
Look close they are all over the place

This is one of the squirrel gardens, they at least bury the bulbs not so with the iris they steal

These are in the woods. Old rotten mother rhizome that were dried worn out no viable roots in the compost pile in the woods
Well I guess they weren't so dead an dried out as I thought

How cute! Squirrel gardens!
Yes, I know you are right about how tough irises are. I once knew a gardener who lived on the side of an arroyo ( Southwestern for a gully). Water only runs there after major thunderstorms of which we get very few per year, and the water runs off in hours.
This man threw all the iris he divided and didn't need anymore into the arroyo. After a few years, his entire arroyo was covered with blooming iris, to his amazement.
