I'm looking for someone with experience growing these. I know that they will readily climb up a string support, but I wonder how they might perform if planted at the base of an oak tree. Would they be able to cling to the bark or would I need to provide supports for them to grow vertically?
I've started some of these from seed and will grow them for the first time this year. My seedlings are still much too small to plant outside. Thanks in advance.

Anyone growing Purple Bell Vine?
Hi wrightie,
Mine was a seed grown plant last year, I got loads of seed from it and have some more growing. It took quite a bit of frost but eventually died over the winter, I left it outside in the hanging basket.
As far as I remember it made small wrap around tendrils, which clung to the other stems. I would give it something to cling to such as thin wire or string, but I'm not sure if it will do well next to an oak tree.
Good luck, it is an amazing plant!
