Stocking Up and Heirloom Seeds

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Is anyone else stocking up in case of a crunch? Or just for prudence?

I know the Mormons have long advocated keeping a year's food supply on hand, and of course there are those of us who stocked up for Y2K.

In my recent evaluations, I have decided to use only heirloom seeds but since this is really my first attempt at a veggie garden I have no idea how it will fare. If it goes well, I will have seed for next year but I also plan to get some extra seed just in case I am a failure at veggie gardening.

Last year I planted butternut squash, had a decent crop that I stored in my root cellar. I have saved the seeds and will grow them out but also plant new seeds just as a benchmark.

So, what are you doing?
