cornus florida for Belgium

Belmont, MA

I'm in the US and trying to find a European source for cornus florida for a friend in Belgium. Any ideas? Any reason why she shouldn't try to grow it? Thanks so much!

It should grow, though may not get enough summer heat to flower very well. Susceptibility to dogwood anthracnose is a problem here (just like it is in the US, too). Cornus kousa is more resistant to this. Availability - the RHS Plantfinder lists 15 UK nurseries selling it; don't know about Belgium but it should be possible to find it without too much trouble.

I can't figure out how to limit the nurseries to a particular location, say the UK. I can, of course, look at each nursery listed, but if there's a way to eliminate the ones from the US, that'd be great.

try entering the following in google (copy and paste the whole line in):

Cornus florida site:.be

Lincoln, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

You will find some links to suppliers at the bottom of this page

Hi, aqueuer,

Only saw this thread now. Perhaps you have already found what you need but for in case you didn't I found a tree nursery in Belgium where they grow the cornus florida and some cultivars of it.
