Quick Canna Question

boone, NC(Zone 5b)

I have overwintered cannas in pots for some years now and have done just fine. This year I had to bring them out a little later than usual (very bad April weather), and I noticed that one newly-planted last year had no sign of growth. I dug down and lifted the bulb and it is quite soft--not rotted, but very soft. Is it a goner? I'm not sure what happened. I am careful not to water and I have no idea how it got moist, but that appears to be what happened. Anyhow, before I tossed, I wanted opinions. Thanks!

toss it

toss it somewhere that if there is any life left in it... it will grow. I always give things a second chance if I have an out of the way place to put and forget it. Otherwise.. just toss.. really, if it is soft.. most likely it is gone.
