Flowering Cherry Dropping Leaves

I have a mature (8 ft), but recently planted flowering cherry that is dropping leaves. The leaves are developing dark markings on the fringes of the leaves, and are turning yellow and red. The leaves are not curling or developing holes. The ground looks to be pretty damp. Anyone out there have any suggestions/remedies? Many thanks.
