I have a question I am hoping someone could answer for me. My yard contains several mature oak trees and has abundant wildlife. This is the first spring I have had in this house, so I don't know if this happens every year, but I have Robins that clean the leaves out of my gutters. I am not just talking about a spot big enough to build a nest, but the whole length of guttering. They get in the edge or in the gutter and throw out the leaves. Over the past month they have cleaned out most of the guttering, all around the house.
Can someone tell my why they are doing this? I'm not complaining since I don't have to do it!
Gutter cleaning by Robins
Looking for insects hiding in the dead leaves. It is one of their main ways of finding food.
Resin
I find earthworms in gutters all the time. I don't know how they get up there, but they do. It's not unusual to find tree seedlings too if they haven't been cleaned for a while.
Welcome to Daves Garden Perplexed!
Please send them here when they're finished at your house. I sure could use them. Beth
