I have a bunch old #10 cans of 10 yr old veggies. I don't want to eat them nor donate them, they are probably ok, but I don't want to take any chances..
My question is, can I open the cans, drain them and add the veggies to my new compost pile? Would it be a "green"?
What about tomato sauce, can I use that?

Canned Veggies & compost
Sounds as if you have a composters dream, Fran, I would dump the whole lot, as long as they don't contain animal, into the compost pile. The sauce will be fine too, but don't pour anything off, it adds too.To answer your question, as to wheather green, yes, it would be considered green.Good gardening, Mike
Thanks Mike, should I do this over a period of time, or can I just take a weekend and clear out the pantry? I will double check but am pretty sure I just have some tomato sauce and mixed veggies.. nothing with meat.
Fran
The sooner you get things started, the faster things will get working.Mike
