I think these birds are so cool (and not just because they're plentiful around here)! They nest in soil embankments, which we have lots of on our property. We're in the process of building a house, and a group of them quickly made a nesting hole in the ground, in a hole that was dug for a concrete pier! Crazy birds. Just thought I'd share some photos of these little guys, since most people outside of Australia wouldn't have ever had a chance to see them!

I'm so glad you took the time to take and share the pics of these lil guy's. I've never seen anything like them nor have I seen birds that nest like that very often.
I find it so odd and frustrating sometimes when trying to attract certain birds. For example...I've built many different kinds of bird houses to attract specific birds and it works maybe 50% of the time. Then I get birds that show up in all the wrong/unexpected places like your post holes. LOLOL Go figure. I guess I should just be happy the birds come to visit at all.
