Raccoons?

Laytonsville, MD(Zone 7a)

I have a thistle feeder I just put up and, twice now, I've looked in the morning and found the feeder taken off the hanger and lying on the ground. The second time, the lid of the feeder was still hanging, but the main part of the feeder was on the ground. It seems to me that only a raccoon with those facile hands could do that. I doubt they even like thistle seed! Anyone else had a problem with this?

Oh, I'm new here. Hello!

Welcome to the Bird Watching forum Julia!!

I don't have a racoon problem (thank goodness) but my squirrels are really aggresive.
If your looking to make your own baffle I can put a link up for you otherwise theres many places that sell them.
I'm sure you'll be hearing from others with racoons soon. Again, Welcome! Pelle

Good luck trying to outsmart the racoons. I have lost small feeders, and some you just have to find. They are clever animals when it comes to free food. Those little hands can unhook some pretty secure feeders. I bring those hanging feeders in at night for a while, then leave them out again. Worked for us.
