My hippeastrums #21

Robertstown, Australia(Zone 10a)

This is similar to #18 but the central star is a bit different and the flower petals are somewhat differently shaped - if anything the petals are even fuller and the red a shade or two richer. As usual they look more different from each other than they photograph!

One of the things I find fascinating about Hippeastrums is the way the flowers change as they age - This flower had only just opened overnight, and it is about 22cm/9in across at this stage.

It appears not to be on speaking terms with its older sibling!

Possible because the older bloom is a full 20cm/10in across?

This plant (#21) is the kind of bloom that explains why I may have to consider #4 as a cull from my breeding program. It is really superb! This close up of a petal from the older flower shows what Dad and I always described as the crepe textured petal - the extra texture reminds me of old velvet - it is just so lush looking. TTFN, KK.
