This one is new for me this year; I hadn't even seen it till this spring. I did get one. Anyone grow it or familiar with it?
Not far from my daughter's house is a nursery called Champoeg Horticultural and they have lots of vines especially clematis. I am hoping to make a trip their during Easter week.
I am hoping for suggestions, what does well and what roses have you mixed with what?
I am planning on a clematis montana a pink one preferably? I have a good spot with lots of room for it but I was hoping for Arctic Queen too but they are out. This nursery is wholesale but allow my daughter and I to come as she is a neighbor.
Clematis cartmanni
Hi Lenjo:
Are you referring to Clematis carmanni "Joe"? http://www.clematis.hull.ac.uk/new-clemdetail.cfm?dbkey=445 That one is widely available in the U.S. I have never grown it, but I know that others have grown it very successfully.
There are several beautiful pink Clematis Montanas to choose from. Just do a search at Clematis on the Web under Montana and pick the one you like the best. That's great that you have the perfect spot to grow it because it does need a lot of room.
You're very lucky that you have a wholesale nursery nearby that allows you to shop there. Do they have a nice inventory of Clematis? What size is the root ball that they grow?
Shirley, they do have a fairly good selection but are already out of many. They sell a gallon size container for $6.50 and they do have larger sizes too. They sell some wisteria, akebia, climbing hydrangeas, loniceras, etc. They are out of wisterias, I have finally decided to give one a try. I am on the farm with lots of room; but have always feared wisteria as I know it can be monstrous but hubby wants to try one too. They have porcelain vine which might come home with me too. I think I have settled on 'Mayleen' for the pink montana clematis. They have florida sieboldii which I think I will try too. Maybe a Comtesse de Bouchard too.
Yes, your link is exactly what I just got, the particular cultivar name is 'Avalanche'. Don't you just love the foliage of the cartmaniis? Sounds like they are not quite as hardy as let's say the armandii. I love the armandii; it smells wonderful.
Ok, I have to say, everytime I read this post's title I'm afraid that this is a clematis that looks like South Park's Eric Cartman... It just cracks me up...
