The author of one of my soap books just raves about soap made from suet. She spent a lot of time explaining how it was the the best soap ever and everything else was a compromise. Well I got a hold of some and finally made a batch of it. I was really less than impressed.

I prefer the lard in the old fashioned soap recipes. Stinks up the kitchen, but makes a beautiful bar of soap that mills very well. It gets everything squeaky clean. It cures rather quickly and all that too.

What type of fat or fat combination do you prefer? I know there are a lot of people who prefer liquid fats. What really interests me is why you prefer them. Is it from trial and error or a particular recipe you found?
