Sorry this is not a pretty picture but its the best I could do. I believe this is a Chipping Sparrow and its the first time I've seen one in my yard. Nothing exciting but its a cute little thing.
New Bird in my Yard
Yes, that is a chipping sparrow. I've been waiting for them to show up here in Northern Ontario but no luck yet. If it had a dark spot in the middle of its chest, it would be an American Tree sparrow.
I'll chip in to agree with Chipping Sparrow. American Tree Sparrow also differs in having a reddish-orange, not black, line through the eye.
Resin
Pelletory, The Chipping Sparrow brought back a lot of child hood memories. There aren't any here in Anchorage. I haven't seen one in many years. When I was growing up there were always several nesting pairs in the yard. They like to nest in young spruce and pine trees at about eye level.
