This fringed tulip is called "Fabio".

This fringed tulip is "Valery Gergiev". My camera does not get the color right, there is no purple in it. The true color is a solid, very deep red.

I also like these...they have stayed in full bloom for several days...seem to be long lived.

I should have taken this pic a few days ago before the deer decided to munch off a few of the buds which were close to opening. Dang deer....grrrrrrrrr.

I like these real well also.

Forced - yellow is 'Yellow Baby", a dwarfish double; reds appear to be the same but markers had different names (Cassini a/o Saloam). Its conceivable I mis-marked one or the other as I prepared them from an end of season sale order in Dec.

Lots of healthy and happy plants, look at all these great tulips.

Nana3, your 'Pirand' is the best picture I've seen of the plant, (I want to grow it now!) Would you post it to plantfiles?

And some of your other varieties, if possible? It is awfully nice to have a place on the internet to see what these things really look like.
You have a splendid garden, looking at your pictures.

It is an early year...

My tulips are coming up and they're all dwarfed this year. Has anyone seen this? I planted them last fall and the ones in the middle are standard tulips that I got at costco. I planted them with bulb food and then put the gravel over about an inch deep. We had a very cold winter with little snow, would that make everything short? Even the fritilarias at the back are only about knee high.

Brush aside your gravel mulch and stick your finger in the soil to see if you need water now, firstly, as a lack of winter moisture will reliably dwarf things. I deal with this a lot in my climate, too. Secondly, it looks like you may have some tulips that are, by nature, smaller. If they are griegii hybrids, they are not meant to be very talll, but still should be a bit taller than they are.
Hope this helps.

One of my favorite tulips is New Design, a lovely pastel. Cool foliage, too!

Hey pard, "New Design" is my absolute favorite tulip, and everybody that comes to my house adores it too. I fvirst saw it in a display garden at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival outside of Mt. Vernon , Wa. Stunning!

Tacky plastic dollar store planters, anyone? These are Montreax and a mix of several different purples.

Thanks James, I turned the sprinklers on them today. We had such a cold, dry winter that some we couldn't water for several weeks because the ground was frozen. On the left side of the bed is a row of normally short tulips called 'Toronto', I think. The good thing about having really short flowers is that the wind doesn't mash them flat :)

Here is a close up of one of the species tulips. All the tulips got mixed up when we moved and I'm not sure which one this is.
