What are ...

Evans, GA(Zone 7b)

all the caterpillars that are everywhere at the moment? (furry, white, black and yellow with small "eyes" along their back). What butterflies or moths do they become and what are they feeding on?

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Most likely, tent caterpillars. They seem to prefer wild cherry, but feed on peach leaves and other fruit trees. If you have any wild cherry or fruit trees around, you should notice their tent like webs. http://www.tent-caterpillar.com/ http://www.uky.edu/Ag/Entomology/entfacts/trees/ef424.htm

yes i am loaded with them now. every one says fish bait. i hate them but know they are harmless unless you have fruit trees.

Oh no. I have a peach tree and apple tree in my back yard and between these two trees is an oak that has one of these tents. I have seen these pests all over everything in my yard, front and back. They nearly defoliated my baby purple crape myrtle. I did not get a single peach last year and wonder if this might be why??? How do I prevent further damage to my fruit trees? Do I have to spray for them?

I have them all over too.. haven't looked at my apple to see...... ??
