I have been trying to grow clematis for several years. I have planted several different types and they don't die but, they look sickly and they don't get big and flowery like my neighbors. What am I doing wrong??? I have one planted beside my house(south side) and I want it to grow up an old antena tower but it never does it just gets a couple of flowers on it and that is it.

Are you protecting the lower 1-2 feet of the vine? This part should be shaded.
Did you water them enough?
Did you over fertilize?
