AZ isn't exactly the mushroom capital, as it is very dry here. But I amended my canna/caladium bulb area with Miracle Grow Potting mix and this came up. Is this native (az) or a stowaway in the mix?

Funny thing... I bought several bags of Miracle Grow potting mix a few weeks ago here in
Southern California (where I've rarely seen mushrooms) and every pot with that mix started
sprouting muchrooms. I've never had this happen before with potting soil.
Some of the mushrooms looked like yours (in the photo) and others were flatter with
white spots and an inky goo on the underside. I'm wondering if they are poisonous and if
I need to worry about them being in with my herbs and tomatoes I have growing in pots?
I'm guessing, probably not, but would anyone have an opinion on this?
The same potting soil brought with it a horrendous knat infestation, as well.
Is there an easy way to "sterilize" potting soil before use... maybe spread it out in the
sun for a few days, or something?
That's interesting. I thought they sterilized it prior to bagging. Although i don't remember if it actually says that on the bag. Hmmm.
