Lots to identify

bundaberg, Australia(Zone 10b)

Hi all,

I'm making an effort to find out what everything is that's growing on my property- most of it would appear to be weeds, but there are a few gems in there I hope! I could use your assistance! I've checked many of the Australian weed sources and of course DG with little to no avail- I'm hoping for local experience! Once I know what things are I'll add them to the plant files. Cheers!

Andi,
your Wild pea or bean vine, looks like: Purple Bush-bean (Macroptilium atropurpureum) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/62214/index.html

I think you are right about your Alphitonia. There are two species in SE Queensland,
Alphitonia excelsa and Alphitonia petriei
The difference between them in the key is:

Indumentum on young branchlets and leaf veins brownish, calyx lobes 1.5-2 mm long; fruits 0.8-1.2 cm diameter ----------- A excelsa
Indumentum on young branchlets and leaf veins reddish, calyx lobes 2-2.5 mm long; fruits 1.2-1.5 cm diameter ----------- A excelsa

Comparing your images with this page: http://www.anbg.gov.au/gnp/gnp6/alph-exc.html
I think yours is probably A. excelsa, but the fruit size would clinch it when they develop.

kennedyh, huge thanks!! I've been trying to track down that vine for a year now! And thank you for the added information on the alphitonia - I really appreciate it! Cheers.

Wow, Dr. Navie has really come through again! My IDd list (see post above) is now much larger than the unIDd! I'll have to spend some time adding them all to DG. That elusive non-emu apple sure is gettin' me though...

Your weird tree looks like Kigelia africana

The first of my photos is of the largest plant of this type I have on the property, so I can't compare it to palmbob's photos- but if anyone has kei apple and can confirm that this is what they look like when they're small I'd appreciate it!!
