Ok I guess I did a no-no, any advice?

I did it, and I have no excuse! I bought clematis in a box at Sam's... Two kinds...Jackmani and Violet Charm. WHen I opened them I found they had sprouted. Especially the Jackmani. There are five in each box, all with various lengths of sprouts coming out. The sprouts are white as can be expecated with no light. I went ahead and planted them in pots for now, and I am wondering if I need to cut off the long sprouts and let them sprout again, or will they?

It's okay to go ahead and plant them in the ground. Be sure to plant them in sun with their roots shaded (mulch, etc.) They do like moist, well drained soil. You shouldn't have to trim the sprouts. They will green up soon.

If these are bareroots..you should keep them potted up in a one gallon pot until you see the roots coming out of the bottom..and yes keep them moist....aren't those in boxes bareroots?..Jeanne

They had those peat moss thingys that are wrapped with some gauzy-like paper but when I took off the paper the peat moss was dry and the roots were bare then, but they were still good roots.I have them is small pots now but will transfer to larger when I have the time and pots. About a week or two. n I put them on the front porch where they do not get direct sun yet bexcasue of the white sprouts. I will gradually move them into more sun. I also am watching the weather for freezing because we can get a frost as late as mid-April. I will have to put them in the greenhouse if we do. Another reason for smaller pots! There is barely any room in there now...
