In the 5a world I live in I usually start stuff around 5/15 - after checking the weather forecast ;) , but you might need to cover stuff on cooler nights so don't plant more than you can cover.
phg, I don't think the mildness of winter means we won't get a late frost, so I wouldn't go earlier than my usual of May 15 (April 15 for perennials and hardy annuals)
I started seedlings indoors 3 weeks ago. I'm hoping this year is better than last year.
yea i started mine on the 3rd, will be doing another tray today, seems i got some bunk seeds
