Hi! I have 9 Khaki Campbell's (8 girls 1 boy!) They are 8 months old and are just starting to lay eggs(actually they are laying them while swimming in their pool!) My question is: Will the male fertilize everyone's eggs or do ducks(especially with the 8:1 ratio)pick their favorite mates and ignore the rest! We have had the same ratio with chickens and the rooster didn't seem to care who he was with!lol! Also since they are just starting to lay, should I collect the eggs for a time for our own use(if they ever decide to lay on solid ground that is!!) before seeing if I can get them to hatch-out any ducklings? Want 'mom' to do the hatching...tried an incubator before and it didn't work out. I think I read somewhere once that smaller eggs that are laid at the beginning and at the end of the laying cycle have a high incidence of not hatching?! We have always bought our ducklings and chicks from either the feedstore or mailorder so any info would be great!! Thanks! Sue :)
