i have been reading and i've noticed that a few of my flowers are self seeding. i use 1 to 1 1/2 inches of hemlock mulch in my garden beds. will this stop the self seeding flowers from propogating? what else could i use that would allow for self seeding to happen? i like the look of the mulch. since my garden beds are new, it gives them a finished look, until the plants i've planted have matured, and also until i have enough plants to fill in all the areas.
perhaps i'm best off sowing the seeds in containers?
help..
thanks debi
self seeding flowers
There are some flowers that will seed right into the bark mulch but the mulch will definatly keep the seedlings down. I buy commercial compost to mulch with and still get a lot of re-seeding but not like I would if it was bare ground. You may just want to pull the mulch back in a few spots and throw some seeds in.
