Fragrant Bloom (Need ID)

New Matamoras, OH(Zone 6a)

Hello folks;,,

Would anyone happen to know the name of this clematis...... I aquired it from a friend two years ago....It was in a gallon container without a tag.......I planted it right away.... Last year it grew up along some pine trees on the side of the yard and got two blooms.... Each one was about six inches across and they also had a fragrant scent to them....I have no clue what it is...... It sure is a beauty......

Dave..the wavy-edged tepals and lavendar colour reminds me of Clematis "Veronica's Choice"..does that name ring a bell...check out my link...Jeanne

Jeanne;,

Thanks for the link..... That sure does look close.....It might just be it...It did produce those two blooms on old wood... The only thing that doesn't match is, the one on the link says it's not fragrant..... This one has a mild fragrance to it..... Thanks for taking the time to check it out..... I'm going to book mark that page,,,

I did get a few seed from one of the blooms.... I'm going to sow them and see what happens....

I also have a "Will Goodwin" that gets double blooms on it once in a while..... I've layered it and started more plants from the shoot thinking it might have been some kind of sport, and then layered those and have a bunch now...... I've been doing this for the past five years with this plant.... Last year I started planting some of the rooted plants outside..... My yard is going to look like a jungle with all these clematis I have here.....

Thanks again Jeanne;...

Dave..you are so welcomed...one thing to understand about the fragrance..is some people "swear" theirs has a scent and some say theirs doesn't...you are lucky yours does!!..Goodluck with the seeds!!..I have a Will Goodwin too but he hasn't had doubles yet because I kept pruning him as a 3...this year I didn't!!...Jeanne
