A few years ago I got to tour a nearby worm farm (the county had a "tour of local farms" weekend or two). The proprietor said that fertilizing his own trees with worm castings was fine, but any introduction of actual live worms near plants guaranteed that the armadillos would dig and dig to get at them, sometimes digging up the plants and always putting them at risk. Anyone have experiences like that? (Armadillos are now pretty common in north peninsular Florida. They seem to keep the fire ants down a bit, but...)
Mark., fire ants keep other insects down, mostly, but they can and will farm aphids...
