I have sort of successfully grown one type of low growing bamboo in a 20" and 17" pot. It does not die back in the winter exactly but the leaves do turn and it will be killed back to the roots at +10 F but still comes back in the spring when cut back. the stuff is less than lead in a #2 pencil in diameter. It is probally no more than 8" in height.
My question is this - what is the most effective type of bamboo to grow in a 20-24" pot on a patio and one that would not grow more than 7 ft and preferably not cost an arm and the leg? Is this asking too much? My original bamboo costs around $60 for 3 plants but I don't remember where I bought it from (internet) & what species the plant is. I did buy it from a well known dealer but the name escapes me. It might have been Tradewinds.
At any rate I'd like to add another type of bamboo to my patio garden. I have an empty 24" pot - no waiting...............
