Moving Native Fern ....

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

We live in the woods and have native ferns along the North side of the house. Problem is they have now spread into the drainage ditch and need to be dug out in that area, they can be invasive but I really like them. When is the best time to do this as I want to take the ones that have to be dug out and transplant them elsewhere. It is still winter here and some are dormant while others have retained their fonds.

Happy Gardening To All!!!

Hi Judy,

In my experience, ferns are not fussy about being transplanted, if you dig them out without too much damage to the root ball.
I think the moment now is ideal to do this operation, when they are still in their dormant or semi-dormant stage.
I even managed to transplant ferns in the middle of their growing season, of course with care and a huge root ball and always succeeded.

Thank you so very much for telling me what I wanted to hear. I thought now would be the time, but wanted verification.
