Last summer, I found this guy thrashing around in my flower beds. Bugger weighed about 30 pounds -- i tried to get him/her to head back to the pond - but he wanted nothing to do with that... and just headed down the sidewalk.

I didn't know IL had such large turtles. How cool! We've only got small ones here...I'd say 5 lbs max.

yea -- big'ole snappers.

I recall one as a child near our nature center, someone said he was prolly about 100 yr old. We have a creek (Salt Creek) which eventually dumps into Miss.River -- but that is where they originally came from.... the creek i mean. I have no idea how it got into my subdivision.

Endangered Gopher turtle there are 3 of these guys moving into my garden because they mowed the field behind my home. He kind of freaked out when he saw me and I had to help him threw his escape hole in the fence
