Greetings to the Bamboo People!
I live in a third-floor apartment with a small balcony that is exposed to the neighbors, dog-walkers, and air conditioner noises below. My balcony is somewhat shaded for most of the day, but gets a few hours of sunlight in the afternoons. I've heard that Japanese arrow bamboo does well in this climate (Manassas, VA), though as a runner, it can get out of hand if allowed to grow unchecked. I'd like to experiment with growing some of this stuff in windowboxes along the edge of my balcony, as a sort of "green screen," and gain a bit of privacy. As I would be growing it in fully-contained boxes on the third floor, I expect that I would be able to spot any wayward runners before they were able to find purchase in any soil, twenty feet below.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Am I barking up the wrong.....er.....culm?
