When to plant these

Wharton, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Everyone. I purchased these rhizomes at Walmart today and would like to plant them in pots for now as I have no garden at the moment. Should I plant them now and keep them in an unheated sun room? Should I soak them for an hour in water before planting? Oops. Photo in next message.

I would just plant them, water them and put them outdoors if at all possible. Tall bearded irises don't require a lot of water, but I believe would be happier in the sun. If your garage has sun that would work.

I would take a different tactic, esp. if you are still experiencing freezing weather or heavy frosts. Pot them up and let them spend the rest of the winter in the sunniest window of your house. Use a quick draining potting mix, and water them well when you first pot them up. Then water sparingly for the rest of the winter until you can plant them out this spring.

Before you pot/plant or ANYTHING ELSE, please totally submerge all you have bought in a mixture of 10% chlorox & water for minimum 30 mins. Then rinse well and continue with whatever else you are going to do.

This to make sure you are not bringing anything bad into your area.

Thanks all. The chlorox mix is a good idea. All had very good advise!! Never did irises before so am really excited.
