Happy Valentines Day to all. We had 8 inches of snow and 2 inches of sleet on top of that. Sleet started overnight. I wanted to get it off the driveway before if became a solid mass. Temps in the 20's this AM. Took two hours to do the driveway, parking lot - and three tanks of gas - the snow was heavy. Along about noon time the the temps dropped below 20 and it started snowing again. Snowed all day - about 3 to 4 inches. Now have temps around 17 degrees and winds gusting to 40 mph. Some whiteouts. - Everything is drifted shut again.

I feel we are lucky so far - we did not lose electricity. Stay safe and warm all, I know what I'll be doing tomorrow - practicing for running the rototiller this spring.( Running the Snow Blower) LOL

That 48° looks really good to me, Ric, so I know you are looking forward to it even more! :-)

Great poinsetta, Sidney. Mine were small and froze. :-(

Taylor Creek, FL(Zone 10a)

Well, that isn't mine either, but just a few blocks away.
We'll most likely get a hard freeze tonight.
My azealeas and other things are in full bloom iam also concerned with a Brugmansia seed pod. that hasn't completely ripened. I'll stick my toe into the Brug forum to see if I should stick a bit of pipe insulation around it. Here's a bloom from the plant that has a seed pod. Sharon would you like a cutting?
They root very easy.

Sidney: Wow - I didn't know poinsettias got that big. Amazing!

Not surprised y'all are going to get a freeze down there in FLA. Our next two nights are expected in the low to mid 20s. Only about 15 degrees below normal. My poor azaleas!

Currenlty:

42°F (About 18* below normal)
Mostly Cloudy
Wind: NW at 8 mph
Humidity: 43%

Deb

Currently 18 degrees with 35 mph wind. The driveway blew shut again so I opened just enough of it, mainly where the snow plow made a 2-1/2 ft. drift to get the Equinox out. It has all wheel drive and we were able to get to the grocery store and to get a new coffee pot that failed on the day of the ice storm. LOL.

My own truck will just have to wait awhile. I do not have to go anywhere, BUT I have a new computer coming any day now. May have to replow so the computer guy can get in to deliver and set it up. giggle.

At this time, the driveway is once again blown shut.

But, we are having a beautiful sunshiny day, blue skies with high white clouds. The ripples in the drifted snow look like a painting. It is supposed to get up to 35 next Wednesday.

(Zone 3b)

11:30am, 18*F sunny degrees...yay - mostly blue sky, very pretty with the white mts beneath...
Sugarweed, seeing a poinsettia, outdoors, much less that large, is quite a gorgeous sight.
MySharona - love the deep red of your Poinsettia...
DebinSC- are you keeping warm?
Marylyn_TX- it sure does look cold there; bet you'll be looking forward to the warmer weather next week.
Janett_D- typical for this time of year?
henryr10 - temps to rise there, too, it seems. Love seeing the snow, though...
Dyson- seems as if you can pick and choose which temp you like best - :) I find our digital is not the same as our older merc ones. Same w/ DD's.
pepper23- at 3am, my time, I see that it was 3* there - has is warmed up throughout the day?
Yesterday's "double-sun" rise...about 9:30am.

GREAT Photos ALL!

dyson I think I passed your Power Trucks on the way home this afternoon.
20 or so line trucks labeled PHE were headed north of my exit.

The Great Lakes Mutual Assistance Group is a group of utilities from the Carolinas thru Michigan.
CG & E (now Duke) our local utility sent trucks and crews down to Katrina and Rita.
Also to a big ice storm down south a few years ago.

This ice is weird! Usually we get it and it's gone in hours. (warmth and wind)
Two days later it's still hanging on. We've had next to no wind and the temp this morning was 0
Driving today was magical. All the ice is still here on the trees.
Dark clouds w/ the sun peaking thru made it like driving in a 25 mile blown glass diorama.
We drove over to KY. The entire KY side was lit up like a Christmas display.
My Bamboo suffered some serious damage, at least 1/2 is broken off at the 5' level.
Luckily it bounces back fast.

Here's this afternoon.

Kelli-what a gorgeous display of California Poppies.. a great photo.
DebinSC-your sky photo is awesome - very glorious looking; and, MySharona, what a fantastic sky down there, too...and, such winter weather coming your way..keep warm..
Dyson- glad you're feeling better. Bet it is pretty with the glittering ice.
When I went to pick up my grandchildren from school yesterday, I was struck by the amt. of snow in the playground; they play outdoors, but not on the equipment.

Ric – I think it’s wonderful how “The States” pitch in to help each other during difficult times. I love the ice picture…so beautiful yet dangerous at the same time.
Kiska – I bet if the school turned the children loose in the playground all the snow would melt away! I see a LOT of potential “snow angels”!
Amanda – so glad you’re warming up! (13*LOL!) sorry – I know – not funny, but I had to giggle!!
Dyson – Why are you awake at 4:00am?!

That Freeze Warning would be our Snow Warning.
An Alberta Clipper is heading South again.
There is so little moisture in the air here now that we're just looking at 1-2" of Snow this time.

Here's a link to my friend Badseed's experiences w/ the ice.
Bear in mind she has 6 daughters ranging from 2-14.

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/693283/

My friend Bonnie from KY is now down (or should be by now) in the Miami area for a few days.
Hope the weather hold some heat for her.
Of course after single digits........... LOL!
(It's 3 here now w/ a wind chill of -6)

MySharona, did it freeze last night? Once again, your sky is filled w/beautiful clouds. The school kids do play in that playground, but the snow's frozen, so no snow angels...
Dyson - cold and dark - sounds a lot like here :) not much longer, though, the days are gaining nearly 6 min. day.
Ric- very pretty with the light behind the trees..looks great.
gardengus - will the kids have to make up the missed days?
