Some Adenium Question

Waco, TX(Zone 8b)

Here are some questions I would like answered. I am thinking about getting some Adenium plants or seeds.

Does the seeds from the Adenium when grown come true to the parent plant or is it a new hybrid?

Are Adenium self pollinating or do you need another plant to help pollinate it?

What are your thoughts about buying grafted Adenium?

Thanks,
Clayton

Hello Clayton,

Well, it's sexual reproduction - you can't expect a complete copy of the traits of the parents. A trait - flower colour for instance - might be dominant to some extent. But the only way to ensure a particular flower colour and morphology is by grafting.

Generally, Adenium can't self-pollinate - some hybrids are sterile, others might self-pollinate (I am not 100% sure of that). IMHO you should go for at least two "mother plants". Seed production is fun. ;-)

Thanks Martin , for all of your help. I have one other question. What do you mean when you write "IMHO"?

It's short for "in my humble opinion."

The only reason I bought a grafted was because it had 3 different colors on plant. They grow so quick I would not buy one for any other reason. They are very easy to grow from seed. They will not self pollinate as far as I know.
