Hock Sores

My gelding always lies on the same side and has developed a sore on the hock that does not want to heal. Bandaging the hock isn't really an option. Besides bedding the stall very deeply and applying ointments to hock sores, does anyone have any other advice to throw at me? I suspect that putting another couple of inches of shavings down should be the answer, but only time will tell.

I've already spoken to the vet, so now I'm just looking for experiences from other horse owners.
