Hows everyone in this Blizzard!!!!???

Hastings, MI(Zone 5b)

I hope everyone is ok.
Our horses are in for the duration, we let them out for
about 20 minutes while DH and I cleaned stalls, scrubbed
buckets, fresh hay, fresh shavings, they were nuts to come
back in. Ollie was scared to even make his way back from
the back pasture the wind and blowing snow was so scarey
to him. But, he heard my voice, and trusted it, and came. Joy
came next, muttering under her breath the whole time. : )

The chickens are snugged in with the geese and ducks,
lots of fresh water, tons of straw and fresh air and no wind.
they aren't happy, but they are safe.

All the cats are curled up in the hay, I put out my coffee cup
warmer with a little bowl of water on it, and when we go out
to the barn, we turn it on for a half hour to keep the water
unfrozen for them.

My fruit trees are in their glory in this freeze. They are very
happy Michigan fruit trees right now. Bring on the cold they
say!

Only one ski-doo thing went by today on the road, then it
went back. guess it was just too cold for them too, and the
visibility too little.

I feel terrible about the animals outside, the dogs left out
for "security", chained up to doghouses or trees.

We have the wood stove and have not needed heat at all
for months now. Its wonderful having that cheery fire and the
delicious warmth, and intoxicating yummy smell from the
wood fire. One log lasts all night and keeps the entire house
snug and warm.

I hope noone here has had to go out in this terrible weather and
drive. What a nightmare!! Be careful!! Take emergency gear
and blankets just in case.

Good Morning....what...one log keeps you warm all night?? We really load ours up and it was still 59 deg in the house this morning! But it is really roaring now and I'm toasty!!

Seems like hundreds of churches are closed this morning and they are still saying to stay off the roads. It sounds like more snow/wind will be coming back this afternoon. My darn kids both went out yesterday in the mess...I could have bopped them one!

Everyone keep warm and snuggle in for the duration!

Yes! One big log does the job all night!!!! In the morning, I sift the ashes and save the
clinkers and restart the fire so easily. Our house stays about 80 degrees, we
have to open the bedroom window and shut the door to cool off to sleep well.

this morning I put in 5 logs and damped it down, and they are still going from 7am
its now 1pm, and the fire is hot. I poured water into the water pot on top and its
boiling. the logs have another few hours left in them, I did bring in 2 more
logs to the house just in case I needed them.

thanks!

PS we have a Magnolia bought 2nd hand from Tractor Supply company for
$400. Its beautiful, and every morning i just swipe the inside window with
some ammonia and some crumpled newspaper and its clean as a whistle
and all ready to go and look pretty for the rest of the day.

Another blizzard Friday dumped about a foot of new snow on top of the previous foot of snow we already had. Sure makes outside chores a pain.
That wood stove looks nice. We burn wood too...for 30 years now.
I'm ready for Spring!

Yup. Looks like Michigan to me!
bleak, grey, cold, cannot walk anywhere without falling,
looooong farm vistas with wicked winds.

then, winter comes. LOLOLOL
